Why I love hypnosis?

This is an old video of Jozlin talking about why she loves hypnosis. It will be replaced soon. Just note the different last name and the dates are not relevant, but everything else is!

So, what is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a state of mind where you are open to suggestions. When our brain moves out of Beta brainwave levels down into Alpha, Theta, or Delta levels, we become much more open to suggestions. The difference with hypnosis can be found in the intention. Hypnosis goes beyond simply helping you enter into a relaxed state and adds in the intention of creating lasting, meaningful changes in your life.

Hypnosis is not…

  • What you see in movies or on TV

  • A way to control people

  • Something that will fix all your problems

  • A replacement for physical or mental health treatment

  • A gimmick or a trick

Hypnosis is…

  • A scientifically studied approach

  • Safe & Holistic

  • A tool, not a cure

  • Supports other treatment modalities (therapy, medicine, etc)

  • A life changing experience

Times you have have likely been in a hypnotic state:

  • Meditation (guided or otherwise)

  • Watching TV or a movie (This is why commercials are so effective!)

  • Washing the dishes, mowing the lawn, folding laundry. Repetitive task that don’t require lots of thinking

  • Driving a familiar route and going on “autopilot”

  • Listening to audiobooks or podcasts

  • During exercise, especially yoga, walking, and running

If you have ever done any of these things, you have been hypnotized!

Many types of meditation, especially guided meditations, have themes and intention. Hypnosis takes this intention a step further by helping you enter into the meditative state. Meditation has the power to improve your life, but hypnosis has the power to improve your life in direct and intentional ways. This is because hypnosis allows you to choose the way (self-confidence, stress, sleep, phobias, weight-loss, etc) that you want to change your life.

What can I expect at my session?

I am sorry to disappoint you, but there are no pocket watches you have to watch swing back and forth.

Here is what you can expect:

  • When you arrive for a session, you will be greeted by Jozlin and invited into her office. There is an arm chair you can sit it. The room is lit by lamps so it is comfortable, but not too dark. (You can request a sleeping mask if you prefer total darkness when your session starts.)

  • Once you sit down, you'll be asked to fill out forms if you have not already done so online.

  • You and Jozlin will chat a bit and she will see if you have any final questions about your session.

  • Before you session starts, Jozlin will review your session plan with you and make sure you are ready to proceed.

  • You will then be given a chance to visit the bathroom.

  • When you come back to the office, Jozlin will check in one final time before she starts.

  • Once you let her know you are ready, you'll be asked to lean back the recliner and get comfortable.

  • Some session require you to be able to respond during the session, but not all sessions do. You'll be monitored during the session to ensure you are able to respond as needed.

  • At the end of the session, Jozlin will "wake you up" and ask you to open your eyes.

  • Once you are ready, you are invited to talk about your experience of the session. Jozlin will provide feedback regarding what she noticed during your session.

  • Payment is due at the end of the service. Jozlin can accept exact cash or a tap card. If you need another form of payment, please reach out before you session.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Can I bring someone to my session?

    1. YES! Sometimes people are nervous and would like someone to be there with them during the session. As long as that person is able to be quiet and sit still for the duration of the session, they are welcome to come. They will be monitored to ensure they are not hypnotized as well.

  2. Will I remember the session?

    1. Most people remember most of the session. Hypnosis is not like anesthesia. The only reason you might not remember part of the session is if you fall asleep. Falling asleep is normal and doesn't make the session not work.

    2. Even if you stay awake, there is a chance you will experience some time blindness. Sometimes clients feel like only 10 minutes have passed when it was actually an hour long.

  3. Are there any medications I should not take before a session?

    1. Medications that are stimulating or sedating can effect the session. Your brain needs to be able to relax enough that it allows you and Jozlin to access your subconscious mind. This can be difficult with medications that treat attention or even too much caffeine. On the other end, medications meant to calm or sedate can sometimes cause issues as well.

    2. If you have any concerns, reach out. With creative scheduling and planning ahead, it can be easy to figure out how to make the session possible.

  4. My (insert family member here) struggles with drug/alcohol addiction. Can you make them not addicted to a substance anymore?

    1. The short answer is no, unless it is cigarettes, vapes, or chewing tobacco. Addiction, even addiction to socially acceptable things like food, is a disease not easily cured. Hypnosis could make it so you or your family member is so disgusted by the thought of consuming their drug of choice that the idea of it makes them sick, but that could cause more harm than good. If someone relies on a cane to walk across the house, taking their cane away isn't going to fix the underlying condition that made them need the cane in the first place. The same thing happens with addiction.

    2. What Jozlin will do is work on the underlying conditions that cause a person to reach for whatever they are addicted to. Once that has been worked on, there are things that can be done to help someone not want to reach for the addictive substance anymore.

  5. Can you do group sessions?

    1. Yes! My office will only comfortably fit two clients, but if you want a larger group session, I would love to discuss locations for a large group. Larger groups makes hypnosis cheaper for the individual. Reach out to talk about pricing.

  6. Can children be hypnotized?

    1. Yes! Depending on the age of the child, hypnosis can look very different for them. A common session for a child is bed wetting. As long as there are no underlying medical conditions contributing to the behavior, hypnosis is a great way to address it. Reach out to Jozlin for more information.

  7. How many sessions will it take to "fix" me?

    1. Most issues that people come to Jozlin for only take one session to address. However, once you experience how great hypnosis feels and its effectiveness, you will likely want to come back for other issues. Or, just for a general well being session.
